Week 9

Sensory Processing

The ability to taste, see, touch, smell and hear is something that we don’t think a lot about, but senses in children are often impacted by trauma, abuse and neglect. This week in our support groups, we will be focusing on the eight (yes, that’s right…eight!) senses and how to regulate them in our children.

Week 10

Redefining Self-Care in Trauma Parenting

Self-care is typically thought of as a day at the spa or a long vacation. Foster parents are regularly reminded to work on self-care. But just how are we supposed to make that happen when the demands at home are so extensive? This week in Parent to Parent, we will be talking about how to achieve self-care in the midst of day-to-day parenting and why it’s so important.

Week 11

Helping Kiddos With Their Hard Stories

The kiddos we are parenting have experienced difficult events. Abuse, neglect and separation from birth parents have created histories for our children that they wouldn’t have chosen. As a foster or adoptive parent, we tend to avoid talking about their pasts before they entered our families. Join us this week in Parent to Parent as we discuss how to have the hard conversations with our children so that they have a strong understanding of their stories.
