Relative Caregivers

Relative caregivers are in a position they never expected to be.

Relative caregivers can be grandparents, extended family members, or close family friends. They are faced with raising children who have been separated from their first families. These difficult separations happened because of abuse and neglect.

Relative caregivers usually have not had traditional training that foster parents have received. This can leave them grasping for answers on how to parent their children who have a history of trauma. Chosen offers parent education to these families through our holistic approach:

  • Collection of history to gain an understanding of the entire family’s needs;
  • Corresponding Trauma-informed Action Plan® structured to promote attachment and healing
  • one-on-one coaching to teach relative caregivers trauma-specific techniques
  • Referrals for therapeutic resources and professionals
